He died October 3 1903 at his home in Marshfield, Wood County, Wisconsin after 59 years, 7 months and 21 days of life. The cause of death was a paralytic stroke. Mathias' obituary appeared in the Thursday, Oct 8 1903 edition of the Marshfield News. Funeral services were held October 6 1903 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield with Rev. Funeral services were held Friday, May 14 1926 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. She was laid to rest in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
