Rosa "Rose" Wellner, daughter of John Wellner Sr. and Magdalene Muench, was born June 6 1889 in the Town of Edson, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. She married Mathew Zimmerman May 12 1908. Rosa died December 30 1972 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin after 83 years, 6 months and 24 days of life. The cause of death was natural causes. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Boyd, Wisconsin with Fr. Eugene Comiskey officiating. She was laid to rest in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Boyd, Wisconsin.
Grandma loved to knit. Growing up, her knitted mittens, scarves and hats protected us from the cold Wisconsin winters. One of the last items she knitted before her failing sight and stiffening fingers wouldn't allow it anymore was a pair of mittens. While the stitch was as tight as ever, the size turned out to be a little too big. As a matter of fact, I tried them on a couple of years ago and they were still too big. Ma kept that pair of mittens in her cedar chest as a lasting memory of Grandma. With Ma no longer with us, the mittens have been passed on to the next generation, along with the memory of Grandma's love of knitting.
