Rudy married Frances Greco June 9 1934. They had one child, Barbara (b.1936). Barbara wrote the following about her dad: "His mother had to tell him at age 19 to leave the farm as there wasn't enough work to keep them all and at that time he was the oldest and they needed to have work for Uncle Chuck and Uncle Jim...plus that would have made Uncle Chuck 17 and Uncle Jim 15...his father didn't want the duty of telling my dad (Rudy) he had to leave as I asked my dad many times why his mother got the dirty task....my dad was very close to his mother and when he left he went to Racine and went to work for Nash Motor Company at that time and sent money home to help his parents. I know my father couldn't finish school but the teacher at the school down by Danielson's Farm taught him an extra year of higher education as grandpa wouldn't allow him to go to town. Life back then was hard and rough."
