Stephan Zimmerman, son of Gerard Zimmerman and Elizabeth Krug, was born Dec 22 1835 in Prussia. It is said that the Kaiser of Germany wanted men in the Armed Forces who were not tall. Stephan, one of the two brothers who were not tall, had served a term in the Armed Forces. When he heard that another war might take place, he immigrated to the United States. Stephan arrived in the United States at the Port of New York in November of 1867. He declared his intent27 to become a citizen of the United States Oct 22 1869. No record of his naturalization could be located. Stephan died Oct 22 1906 at his home near Boyd after 70 years and 10 months of life. Cause of death was paralysis of the bowels. His death notice appeared in the Saturday, Oct 27, 1906 edition of the Stanley Republican (Prosperous Ridge Correspondence column). Stephan was laid to rest in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Town of Edson, Chippewa County, Wisconsin.
